"We usually give presents to new little babies when they are born. Perhaps the idea of giving gifts at Christmas time may have come from the wise men, long ago. When they found Jesus in Bethlehem, each wise man presented a gift to the tiny baby. The first wise man gave the gift of gold.
The parents of Jesus needed money as our parents do. They must have been glad for this help. Jesus' parents were not rich. Some day this gold could be put to good use to buy Jesus' clothing or to help with his schooling. The gift of gold showed the wise man's desire to give Jesus something very precious and useful."
